From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in power within the urban setting.
Note: Revealing details for the third episode of this adventure follow below.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of characters who will branch out from the central cast to begin their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
With an extensive roster, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the team understands precisely where to go next after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.
The antagonist then cleared his debts and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, wants retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
- Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their status as important members in the powerful family could enable the team enter areas they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The fighter pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:
- Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
- The strong figure and The healer turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This leaves them few options but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.
